"The Great Book of Graphic Arts" project aims at verifying cultural and artistic achievements as regards the phenomena in the graphic arts of the 20th century which contributed to the present shape of the modern multimedia graphics. The developmental path of the techniques of printmaking from a dry needle to electronic tools best illustrates the changes within the matrix. The picture will not be full if we do not include the modifications of ideas and media which have become the carriers of the works of art. The new media have made it possible to transform the artistic form, content, technique and technology adjusted to the needs of the local and international society.
We want to rescue from oblivion the phenomena and cultural facts in the field in question that have contributed to the modern transformations in the area of graphic arts.
The project is worth implementing mostly because of the passage of time which erases all traces left by the artists - their ideas and works. In pursuit of novelties, we have no time for any reflection upon the sources of our inspiration. We tend to forget what we owe to our masters claiming that we owe everything only to ourselves.
The critical assessment of the changes taking place in graphic arts should take into consideration these authors and their works that, due to commercial and political reasons, have been condemned to oblivion.
